The bi-annual International Addressing Filicide Conferences held in 2013, 2015 and 2017 at the Monash Prato Italy Centre brought together researchers, policy and program experts, and service providers, internationally, to inspire a long-term focus on developing an international knowledge base on filicide, a type of child homicide where a parent(s) or equivalent guardian(s) kill their child or children.
The Monash Deakin Filicide Research Hub, which has sponsored the past conferences, will hold the 2019 conference at Deakin Downtown in Melbourne Australia. We hope that the new location will continue to attract delegates from Canada, USA, UK and Europe, and bring new delegates from Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific and South-East Asia. The Conference will be held in the heart of Melbourne’s Central Business District.
Filicide is a tragic topic that continues to occupy front-page news. State and federal government’s investment in domestic violence services has placed the risks for children exposed to domestic violence at the heart of the discussion on prevention of filicide but the complexity of filicide necessitates much more discussion and research. Many professions are needed to overcome the problem, lawyers, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, general practitioners, criminologists, health and welfare service providers, policy and program experts, researchers and academics. We hope you will join in!
